October 2014 M&M and H&H
The old M&M Dairy, and Huguenot and Hanna parks were the locales for this months birds. Most of these birds are commonly seen at these locations, but are always worth another look.
M&M DAIRY – Mockingbirds in the trees and Turkey vultures circling above are a common sight, as well as shrikes, phoebes and bluebirds.
And one or possibly two Red-shouldered hawks working the fence-line for a meal.
Also, nearby at Sheffield Park I saw grebes, coots and Killdeer.
HUGUENOT PARK – Shorebirds and waders are common here and include gulls, terns, sandpipers, herons, egrets, and plovers to name a few.
Also, near the park, I saw Osprey and Cattle egrets.
HANNA PARK – Anhinga are a staple here as well as Osprey fishing the lake. I got close looks at a crow, Common yellowthroat and Little Blue heron.
And Yellow-rumped warblers were beginning to make their winter appearance at the park.
